It can be tough to get back into the school routine. Here are five tips to make it a little less hectic.
You’re counting down the last days of summer vacation and squeezing in every trip you can. Before your kids go back to school, here five things you can do to help make the transition a little easier on everyone!

Five Things You Can Do to Keep Your Kids Healthy
-
- If you haven’t already, schedule your child’s back-to-school dental visit. Some kids are fresher and more cooperative in the morning; some are better after lunch or a nap. Bringing your child in when they are most cooperative helps their dentist and hygienist do the best they can for your child. Don’t forget to bring in any dental appliances or to ask about a mouthguard if your child is playing sports.
- Pre-planning and meal prepping your kids’ lunches and after-school snacks can make it easier to make healthy choices. Choose foods like apple slices and nuts, low salt lunchmeats (like turkey and chicken) and snacks like veggies and cheese cubes. Make your child’s lunch the night before to make mornings a little less hectic.
- Lay out your child’s clothes the night before to make the morning routine less stressful. If your child is a little older, put out two outfits and let them choose which they want to wear. That night, you’ll only have to choose one outfit to give them a choice for the next day!
- Parents are usually more lenient in the summer when it comes to bedtime. A couple of weeks before school starts, start putting your children to bed 15-20 minutes earlier until they are back to their regular bedtimes. This will make regaining your usual nighttime routine less of a shock for the whole family.
- From dashing out the door to the beach to late-night campfires, summer can do a number on your family’s brushing routine. As you get bedtime back in check, recommit to your child’s dental care schedule. Every morning after breakfast and every evening after dinner, have your child brush their teeth for two minutes. Make sure they floss once a day, too. If they have trouble holding dental floss, try a Y-shaped flossing device specially made for kids.

Conclusion
The back-to-school rush can get hectic, and it’s easy to let things slip. By starting to re-introduce the school year routine now, the transition from summer days at the beach to sitting in a classroom can be easier and almost pain-free.
